Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement curriculum-based and general educational programs and activities tailored to various age groups, including school tours, workshops, and interactive exhibits.
- Collaborate with museum curator to ensure educational content accuracy and relevance within exhibitions.
- Design and produce educational materials, such as guides, lesson plans, and activity sheets for visitors and school groups.
- Facilitate public engagement through programs, lectures, presentations, and discussions related to the museum’s collections and exhibitions.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs, gathering feedback from participants and making adjustments as necessary.
- Recruit, train and oversee volunteers and interns involved in the museum’s educational initiatives.
- Coordinate special events, such as Kids Take Over the Museum, holiday-themed activities, and summer programs, that promote learning and engagement.
- Research and apply for grants and other funding opportunities to support the expansion and sustainability of educational programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledgeable about learning styles and developmental stages for a wide variety of ages.
- Knowledgeable of Great Smoky Mountains history Must demonstrate leadership qualities and take initiative.
- Creative, flexible, and organized.
- Reliable and timely.
- Willing to work evenings, weekends, holidays as necessary
- Ability to assimilate information and impart it in a factual, coherent, and engaging manner.
- Excellent oral communication skills.
- Ability to stay on task and work in a self-directed manner.
- Professional and courteous manner when dealing with co-workers and members of the public.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree required. Academic experience in museum education, history, education, or related fields preferred. Museum education or classroom work experience is preferred but not required. Experience with children or families is preferred.
