Lizzie joined the GSMHC team in September of 2024 propelled by her interest in history, tourism, and nonprofit work. She grew up on a family farm where she developed a deep connection with animals and the outdoors. She worked as a tour guide at Tuckaleechee Caverns for several years, guiding visitors through a rich and largely unseen geological side of the Great Smoky Mountains. In college, Lizzie pursued studies focused on the Appalachian region, World War II, and counterculture movements.
As a lifelong resident of the Townsend area, Lizzie holds a deep love for this place, and fosters an abiding desire to preserve and share it with others.
