Philip Tyler, Collections and Guest Services Coordinator, is an aspiring museum professional with graduate-level training in Public History. He joined the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center staff in 2025, bringing with him a passion for Southern Appalachia and its history.
Philip completed his graduate studies at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, studying theoretical and practical aspects of museum work. During his time in Boone he curated exhibits, and worked closely with the team at Fort Defiance Historic Site.
After two years across the mountain, Philip is excited to be back home in Alcoa, starting the next chapter of his life with his partner Hayley. He is equally excited to help usher in a new era at the Heritage Center, where the history and culture of his beloved Appalachian Mountains will be preserved for years to come.
